My journey started on my first mission trip to
Honduras in September 2007, the experience really changed my life. Before I came again in September 2008 I
started to look through the WGO newsletter to see if there was something I was
qualified to do, there was a listing for an Administrative Assistant/Accounting
to the CFO, this was right up my alley as in some way or another I have been in
the accounting field for around 35 years. So during that mission trip I let it
be known of what I was thinking and started the interview process. I was sent
home to pray about it in November of 2008, I submitted my application and in
May of 2009, I received the call that if I still wanted to be part of WGO they
truly want me to join them here in Honduras. Then came the fun part raising
support as missionaries we are responsible to raise 100% of what it cost for us
to live here each year. So on July 14,
2010 I had raised what I needed and either sold or gave always most everything
I owned and moved to Honduras. My life
has changed so much since being here now almost two years.
July 14, 2010 I arrived in
Honduras and started to setting in and getting use to the culture which is so
different than in the United States and started learn what it means to be
completely out of my comfort zone by not being completely in control. I have had to learn to be dependent more on
God and also others around me. As I live and work in the same building that was
easy. But getting to the city for
church, grocery shopping, bible study was a different story as we live 10 km up
the side of a mountain, I had to be willing to look and accept help for
others. This was very hard for me and I
am learning to be better about it. A
week after I got here I meet with our attorney and started the residency
process, finally on August 24, 2011 I received the 1st of 5 residency cards
that I have been approved for. During
all of this time I have been learning my job within the non-for-profit world, I
am currently responsible for all of our short term mission teams finances,
payroll for missionaries and a host of other financial duties and have been
growing in my knowledge. Working on
learn Spanish and all the ins and outs of the culture and the Honduran people. Then in February 2012 God opened the door for
me to start back to school to get my accounting degree completely on-line. This has been something that I have always
wanted to do but I guess God just needed to show me to slow my life down some
so that I would have time. Another great
thing has happened to me in February was that after long planning since August
of 2011, I started leading a Celebrate
Recovery program for Spanish speaking Ladies.
This has been something that has always been on my heart and I am so
overjoyed that God has made the way for this new adventure to help these ladies
see that there is hope for them to change their live and the lives of their
families and friends. I
pray that this small start will open doors to a much grander scale in the
future. Finally start to overcome one of
my fears and went to get my Honduran driver’s license. Now the next step is to raise the money to
buy a car and become a little more dependent. This is scary but in the end will
be well worth it.
I am so glad that God opened my eyes that I chose
to be obedient to what God had for me and step out put my foot in the water and
taking a chance. Since being in
Honduras, God has taught me a lot of things, has been working on some of my
self-doubts and fears. I have met so
many wonderful people through all that come here each year and have been able
to work a long side of them serving the Lord by serving his people. Even though most of my day in spent in the
office working with numbers, I so enjoy the interaction with each team and to
listen to their stories and God has worked in and through them. Another thing that I also enjoy are the times
that I am able to go our Ranch helping to open and improve communication
between me and the other missionaries that live there and being able to watch
what is being done for the Honduran children that live there.
I have am
so enjoying this journey that God has me on and look forward to continue on for
as long as God has planned. Each day I
am trying to learn to become a person more life God, being broken by what
breaks his heart and to be part of the solution not the problem.
I have arrived in the states on May 10th and will be here for 6 weeks of furlough to see family, friends, supports and to visit churches, this is my time to raise funds so that I can continue to stay in Honduras for another year. I am putting my faith in God to provide all of my needs on this journey. Please stand with me in prayer for the blessings and provisions from God to continue on this journey.
God has taught me how much that I am love and just
how blessed I truly am.
